Perissa beach in Santorini |
During the last years there has been the trend of sunbathing, with the black colour of the skin to be considered as nice and sexy. However while sun can be a great friend, he can also be a great enemy if someone doesn’t use all the necessary protections. Don’t worry though as taking the necessary precautions is pretty simple and it can guarantee to you that you will have no bad surprises.
To being with, the first very important rule is to use sun cream. Keep in mind that you will need to refresh it frequently and especially before entering the sea. The sea water actually works as magnifying glass, causing the sunlight to become stronger and therefore, more dangerous. Additionally, around 11 am to 2 pm every day is the strongest sun. That means that you should avoid sunbathing during this time, or if you don’t want to do so, then you should apply sun cream even more frequently and take more often some refreshing swim in the cool water. Last but not least, concerning the kids, you should make sure to use some really strong sun cream (there are even special ones for kids), while they should wear a hut and a t-shirt. It’s important to follow all those rules, as children always enjoy spending a lot of time under the sun, playing in the water or outside – on the beach.
A small tip in case you will find yourself sunburned is to use Greek yogurt. You will spread it on the burned area and you will wait for a while. Later you can wash it off and in case it’s needed, reapply. It might sound little bit weird but it is actually very effective and cheap solution.
Concerning your Santorini accommodation, staying in a hotel right next to the beach is always an ideal thing as you will have easy access at any time of the day. Furthermore, if you are the type of person that enjoys a nap in the noon, you will be able to go back to you room and return on the beach during the afternoon.
